I think it is beneficial to are learning if we read both amuse and night. I think we should read both because they both show different parts of the Holocaust and both show it in much different ways. However if only one of the books was to be read i think that it should be Night for one main reason, comics seem to make the death camps a happier feeling and makes them seem not as bad as they in fact were. while in Night with no comics the tradgities were more easily conveyed
In the very beginning of Night Moshe the beetle was very well liked in the city were eli lived. however after he came back and told the town of Gestapo and all the people who were murdered there he became an outcast and everyone thought he had gone mad. Someone even said about Moshe "He's just trying to make us pity him." Moshe had ended up being right about the germans and people wished they would have left the small town and fled to somewhere safe. I Believe that if only one book is to be read it should be Night because it better teaches us about the terrible things that happened in germany than Maus did. Also Night has an amazing quote showing just how much the camps changed people and close the survivors were to the brink of death"From the depths of the mirror, a corpse gazed back at me. The look in his eyes, as they stared into mine, has never left me."

Since Maus was a comic book it didn't show as well how terrible the Holocaust was because comics can not show the terrible things that happened, the bodies in crematoriums, hundreds of people packed into a single train car fighting for a scrap of bread, or people who were hung hanging still half alive. However night did. I think the reason Maus couldn't is because it made people into animals which i think makes people not believe the things actually happened in the severity that they did. This quote from Maus did however leave a lasting impression on me to how horrible the camps were"We knew the stories- that they will gas us and throw us in the ovens. This was 1944… we knew the stories. And here we were.” This quote shows that although amuse did show the holocaust in quite the same way night did, it still did a pretty effective job of doing so thats why i recamend both books.One thing that both of these books showed us is that no matter who you were before the death camp, that doesn't matter anymore everyone has almost the same odds of getting killed, no matter your will to live or anything else, you will probably die a terrible death in the death camps.

Also, Both Maus and Night were similar in many ways. They were both similar because they were similar because they were both about the holocaust but they were also similar in much different ways as well. In Night and Maus Both Vladek and Eli lost someone who they were very closed to during the book. In Night Eli looses his father, who was the reason Eli tried to survive, and in Maus Vladek looses Anja. Both of these deaths were similar in that they were both caused by the holocaust. Anja, Vladeks first wife in Maus committed suicide because of the holocaust, and in Night Eli's father died of illness because of the brutal conditions he and many others faced.

       There were many scenes throughout Restrepo that helped me visualize what i had been reading in Fallen angels better.One scene is when they just lie around the hooch when they rant patrolling in Restrepo they had a dance party and i had no clue what they did in fallen angels. a second scene is when in battle a soldier in Restrepo dies one soldier starts balling and that helped me see what they did in fallen angels. a third scene is when just giving me an opportunity to see how small the bunkers really are in war gave me a better visualization of fallen angels. a fourth scene is when the Restrepo soldiers would talk to the locals to get them to try and cooperate that helped show the troubles they went through in fallen angels. a fifth scene is when members of both resptrepo and fallen angels loved killing people and did it for revenge. a sixth scene is how some members in both didn't like to kill anyone at all and they just wanted to survive. a seventh example is when they fined out how soon they are going home how much there mentalities change. an eighth scene is how members in both have nightmares and have trouble sleeping because of the devastations they have seen and experienced. a ninth scene is in fallen angels the soldiers often shot but didn't know were the person was they were shooting at and this seemed to happen a lot in Restrepo also. a final example of this is how during down time they try to find ways to have fun and it showed how in restrepo they found fun in the little things.
        Both restrepo and fallen angels showed many similarities about war. The main idea bin both of these is how bad war really is. In both Restrepo and fallen angels the soldiers go through awful battles and other things that will change them as people forever. one example of this is you never know who will be the next to die and it could even be you. this happens in Fallen Angels when Jenkins dies and it happens in Restrepo when Restrepo dies. The soldiers will never forget the fallen and there memories will stay with them forever. Also war also has some upsides to it. Manly it brings the members of the hooch very close like brothers. the reason for this is every day you have to trust them with your life because if you don't it could get everyone killed. This happens in Restrepo when they all tease the cook and when they have a dance party in the hooch. It is shown in Fallen Angels when peewee and perry rant close in the beginning and at the end they are like brothers.

siddhartha blog

    The reoccurring theme I have found throughout Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse is 
that peoples paths are always changing there is always something good that comes 
from this change. In this book Govinda and Siddhartha separate to because 
Govinda wants to stay with Gotama, and Siddhartha wants to follow his own path. 
When Siddhartha is reflecting what just happened he thinks, "He robbed me, yet 
he has given me something of greater value. He has robbed me of my friend who 
had believed in me, and now believes in him. He was my shadow and now Gotama's 
shadow. But he has given to me Siddhartha myself." (36) This quote is referring 
to Govinda deciding to follow Gotamas teachings, and that this was a good thing 
for Siddhartha to finally be able to follow his own path. Also, later in the 
book when Siddhartha was a rich merchant he decided to throw that life away and 
go live once again in the forest. Siddhartha acted on a sudden urge to leave his 
riches, which for him later on ended up being the right choice." He smiled 
wearily, shook his head and said good-bye to all these things." (84) Sometimes 
in life you have to completely change your ways like Siddhartha did in order to 
find a better path. This quote applies mostly to my life because occasionally I 
decide to do something completely different than I had done in the past, and 
sometimes this choice works well for me, but sometimes it doesn't.
